Independent preparation resource
Preparing for an
Operation Walk trip?
Start your language preparation around the conversations your role will involve. Use your chapter’s instructions to confirm the actual mission schedule, clinical responsibilities, and languages at the host site.

Prepare for the conversation
From screening day
to the local-team handoff.
Operation Walk’s teams bring together orthopedic and other healthcare volunteers. Team arrangements vary. The sequence below is an independent language-learning framework, not an official itinerary or an Operation Walk training requirement.
Agree on the essentials
Ask your coordinator which languages are needed, how interpreting is arranged, and which conversations to rehearse.
Introduce yourself. Listen carefully.
Practice your role introduction, basic questions, clarification, and respectful ways to ask for help.
Keep continuity in view
Rehearse questions about home support and the language of local-team handoff, within the treating team’s plan.
